Pier Collapses in Eastport, ME

The Coast Guard is responding to a collapsed pier that caused one injury and property damage in Eastport, Maine, on Thursday, December 4.

The Coast Guard is responding to a collapsed pier that caused one injury and property damage in Eastport, Maine, on Thursday, December 4.

At about 2:20 a.m., the Washington County dispatch notified watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Eastport that the end of the Eastport breakwall had fallen into the water.

The caretaker aboard the 77’ schooner Ada C. Lore suffered a leg injury, and the ship was also damaged. The Eastport pilot boat was sunk, along with an unoccupied pickup truck. Also, a sheen was reported in the area.

Station Eastport crews are working with local captains to move their vessels to a safe location. Also assisting are the Eastport Port Authority and the Maine Department of Environmental Protection.

The cause of the collapse is under investigation.
