The voyaging double-hulled canoe Hokule‘a, which is making a round-the-world journey to raise awareness of the environment, arrived in Boston in Saturday, July 9. It is docked at the Fan Pier through July 14, and will be open for tours. The crew is scheduled to hold public canoe tours, meet with Native American communities, schools and maritime groups.

Since departing Hawaii in May 2014, Hokule’a has sailed more than 26,000 nautical miles and made stops in 14 countries and 70 ports. Overall, the Mālama Honua Worldwide Voyage is expected to cover over 60,000 nautical miles, 100 ports, and 27 nations, including 12 of UNESCO’s Marine World Heritage sites.
