On Sunday, the Portland, Maine, Firefighters Burn Foundation, along with the Portland Fire Department and community volunteers, will take the Paddy Plunge.

The plunge, an annual fundraiser held on St. Patrick’s Day, benefits the foundation, which provides relief to burn survivors and their families, prevents burn injuries through education and training and promotes the education of fire and medical professionals throughout the state about burn injuries and recovery. Participants have gathered pledges of support and will plunge into the ocean at the East End Beach at the crack of dawn. Ri Ra, a local restaurant sponsors a celebratory breakfast immediately after.
