The Quincy Police Marine Unit will conduct free boating safety training in March, April and May.

The courses will be taught at the Hough’s Neck Maritime Center at 137 Bay View Ave. and are organized in partnership with the Massachusetts Environmental Police. The courses are designed for persons of all ages, regardless of boating skill.

Completion will allow legal operation of a boat in states that require basic boating safety courses (MA does not require boaters to pass a boating-safety course). Completion by kids age 12 to 16 will allow them to operate a motorboat without adult supervision. Some insurance companies offer policy discounts for customers who complete a boating-safety course.

Course dates:

  • March 17, 24, 31: Noon to 4:00 p.m.
  • April 2, 9, 16: 6:00 to 10:00 p.m.
  • May 5, 12, 19: Noon to 4:00 p.m.
