Ray Moulton of Surfland Tackle Dead at 87

Ray Moulton, founder of venerable Surfland Bait & Tackle on Plum Island, Massachusetts, and a well-known fisherman, died on October 25. He was 87. Moulton was born in Peabody, Mass., on Dec. 5, 1923, the youngest of 8 children. He married Kay Martha Webster of Newburyport in 1953, and together they opened Surfland in 1960. Moulton also co-founded 3R Marina in 1973 on the Merrimac River behind Webster’s Riverside Dairy in Newburyport, as well as Riverfront Marine Sports in Salisbury and Newbury in 1978.

Moulton is survived by his wife, 5 children, 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Private funeral services will be held at Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home in Newburyport. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his memory to the Salvation Army, 40 Water St., Newburyport; or to the MSPCA, 400 Broadway, Route 28, Methuen, MA 01844.
