Report from the Field: Bass River, MA
June 19, 2013
Typing this from an Adirondack chair on the lawn of the Summer Shanty restaurant at the Bass River Marina on the Bass River in West Dennis. Just wrapped up lunch (fish and chips of course) with the New England Boating TV crew and our hosts, Dewitt Davenport and his daughter Jo, who took us on a terrific tour of the lower Bass River in their 24′ Topaz CC. Dewitt grew up here, so he knows the river like the back of his hand.
And what a great boating destination it is! The river has 3 excellent public launch ramps, several marinas offering transient slips, fast access to Nantucket Sound, and sandy beaches where boaters can pull up and hang out. Oh, and there’s great fishing nearby too, and we’ll be sampling some of that tomorrow when Dewitt takes us out in his 55 Viking. Hoping to catch a big bass or even a tuna for the cameras.
Tough duty, but someone’s gotta do it!
