Rhode Island’s Official Sailing Education Vessel, the SSV Oliver Hazard Perry, sailed under wind power for the first time on July 16 in Narragansett Bay after leaving the Hinckley Boat Yard in Portsmouth. The 200′, steel-hulled ship left Narragansett Bay via the East Passage and traveled north to participate in the Tall Ships Portland 2015 festival.

The Perry is the first ocean-going, full-rigged ship built in America in over a century. She also is this country’s largest privately-funded, actively sailing Tall Ship, one of only 75 Tall Ships in the world designated by Sail Training International as Class A.
