CapeCodOnline: A dozen rare right whales were spotted Sunday [January 5] in an aerial survey of Cape Cod Bay, the first such excursion of the year, a spokeswoman for the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies said Sunday evening.
Around 10:30 a.m., Charles “Stormy” Mayo, director of right whale habitat studies, and a team of seven researchers set out from Provincetown to conduct the center’s first aerial survey of the right whale season, which is typically December through May, said Cathrine Macort, executive assistant for the center.
