After many months of consultation with avid boaters, designers, engineers and dealers, Hull No. 1 of Rossiter’s new 23-foot day boat was recently sea-trialed on Georgian Bay in Ontario, to great reviews.

The R23 bears classic lines and features a 22-degree variable deadrise that provides a smooth, wave-cleaving ride not often found on day boats in this size range. Construction is all-composite (no wood), and a combination of structural and flotation foam ensure that the R23 is unsinkable. The boat is backed by a limited lifetime warranty. At a dry weight of 3,220 pounds, it can be easily trailered, too.

During the recent sea trial, the R23 jumped on plane quickly with little to no bow rise. Rigged with a Yamaha 200 XCA (max power is 250 hp), the boat planed at 15 mph and delivered a top speed of around 43 mph with 3 adults and 70 gallons of fuel in moderate sea conditions. At 20 mph, in flat-calm conditions, fuel consumption was 3.7 gph; at 30 mph fuel burn was 7 gph.

Inside, the R23 features seating for up to 10 persons, with a layout that invites socializing. The cockpit features comfortable seating, ample dry storage and lots of room for hauling cargo.

The helm features an adjustable, double-wide seat with a flip-up bolster that allows the helmsman to drive comfortably while standing or seated. The forward cabin contains a plumbed head (standard), along with more storage space and a large overhead hatch for letting in lots of air and sunlight.

The integrated swim deck with boarding ladder makes it easy to get in and out of the water, while the transom door provides access to the cockpit, where you’ll find a freshwater washdown hose in the transom. The R23 can be used for fishing, waterskiing, tubing and other watersports activities, and its draft of 16” ensures that it can access skinny water for shore picnics.

Options include a anchor windlass, a Bimini or full convertible top, windshield wipers, pop-up ski tow, rod holders, flagpole, stereo MP3 docking station, 50-quart removable cooler and flush-mount GPS.

The official launch of the 23 will occur at the New London In-Water Boat Show, June 21-22. Click here to schedule a sea trial. (Note: Under comments write, “I want a sea trial in New London.”)
