Sailor Rescued in Sakonnet River Portsmouth firefighters battled rain, wind, hail and choppy waters to rescue a man whose sailboat capsized in the Sakonnet River Thursday evening.

The call came into the Portsmouth Fire Department at 6:24 p.m. A caller told firefighters someone had capsized in the river. Fire Chief Jeffrey P. Lynch said he was concerned about sending firefighters onto the water during the lightning storm.
