Sailors competing in the 43rd annual Buzzards Bay Regatta enjoyed clear skies and great sailing during the event, hosted this year by the New Bedford Yacht Club.

This year’s regatta ran from Friday, August 7 to Sunday, August 9, 2015. More than 300 boats registered for the 3-day event, which included more than 1,000 sailors competing. While the weather was clear, Sunday’s sailing featured big waves and winds over 20 knots, challenging the skills of each sailor and the equipment on each vessel.

One of the largest multi-class regattas in the country, the event included such classes as 420s, PHRF Cruising and Racing, Lasers, 505s and F18s. This year, the regatta hosted the U.S. Sailing Multihull National Championship as well as the PHRF New England Championship, with sailors competing for the Alter trophy. Additionally, the regatta was part of the “triple crown” of Club 420 racing, with the regatta serving as a qualifying regatta for 420 sailors.
