Salem MA Fishing Ban Defeated
Derby Wharf, photo by Joe Devenney. The National Park Service has backed off its plan to ban fishing on Derby Wharf [Salem, Massachusetts] amid criticism from local fishermen, some of whom took to social media to organize their protest.

The Park Service had issued the ban in late August [2014], saying it was necessary because of worries over bacteria levels in the water around the wharf and because of ongoing issues regarding fishers leaving behind litter, such as fishhooks, in the popular tourist site.
