Salem, MA, to Hold Public Hearings on Fate of Winter Island
January 9, 2011
The Salem News reports that a new committee has been established to decide on the future of Winter Island.
The city has hired a consultant to do a master plan of Winter Island, the 32-acre waterfront park used by boaters and campers. The park also has a function hall, hosts a summer theater program, and has 2 old buildings from its days as a Coast Guard station, a large hangar used for storage and a vacant barracks. The city hopes to make better use of the park’s resources and, possibly, develop the former Coast Guard buildings.
