Search Suspended for Missing Boater in Marshfield, MA

The Coast Guard suspended its search at 8:30 p.m., Sunday, for a missing boater who was ejected from a moving vessel near Marshfield, Massachusetts, on Saturday night.

Search and rescue controllers at Coast Guard Sector Boston were contacted by the Marshfield harbormaster at 8:32 p.m., Saturday with the report. The operator of the vessel was also ejected, but was quickly rescued by a nearby kayaker. The missing boater was not wearing a lifejacket.

Coast Guard Station Scituate boat crews launched to search along with Marshfield Police Department and Marshfield Fire Department. After eight Coast Guard searches with surfaces assets and five aircraft searches, Coast Guard Sector Boston suspended all active searches pending further developments.

Local authorities will be responsible for investigating the incident. Current reports indicate alcohol was involved.
