Shark-Bitten Seal Washes Ashore on Cape Cod Some beaches in Chatham have been closed due to shark sightings and now, more evidence of the presence of sharks on Cape Cod.

This photo of a seal (above) washed ashore after being bitten by a shark was taken near Monomoy Island.

Marine biologist and shark expert Dr. Greg Skomal says that the bite comes from a Great White shark. Based on the diameter of the bite, Dr. Skomal believes the shark is 14’ to 16’ long.
