Shelter Island Must Post No-Swimming Signage
April 17, 2012
Shelter Island Reporter reports that the State of New York has warned the town of Shelter Island that it could be fined for failing to post “Swimming Prohibited” signs at 3 beaches—Fresh Pond, Shell Beach and Menhaden Lane.
According to state Dept. of Health Services, the beaches lack certain facilities, including lifeguards and permanent bathrooms, that would allow them to operate as public beaches.
