Snowmobilers Pulled From Mt. Desert Island Pond, Water Supply Compromised

Bangor Daily News: Three hypothermia victims were released from Mount Desert Island Hospital on Thursday, Jan. 18, after their snowmobile plunged into Long Pond, which is Southwest Harbor’s drinking water supply.

Steve Kenney, manager of the Southwest Harbor Water and Sewer District, closed the town’s water treatment plant on Wednesday night, shortly after Eli Strauss and the two 12-year-old girls riding with him went into the southeast end of Long Pond.
