Stamford, CT, Boaters Fight on to Save Boatyard
November 6, 2011
Stamford Advocate: Howard Flaster and others said Monday a developer’s plan to tear down the city’s last full-service boatyard feels like the death of one of the final concrete vestiges of Stamford’s maritime heritage.
Flaster, a Stamford native and Ponus Yacht Club member, said for his whole life, the 14-acre Brewer Yacht Haven West has served boaters as a regionally important facility where they could obtain out-of-water repairs.
“If you hit a rock and are taking on water, you’ll have to go to Cos Cob or Norwalk Cove Marina,” the 64-year-old Flaster said. “They should keep it a working boatyard.”
