CapeCodOnline: Students from Cape Cod Community College will head to Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve this morning (Sept. 20) to deploy state-of-the-art water-quality testing devices that will monitor the accumulation of dangerous chemicals in the area.

In April, actor and activist Mark Ruffalo and Osterville scientist Scott Smith joined state Rep. Brian Mannal, D-Barnstable, on Beacon Hill, where they rallied legislators around their nonprofit Water Defense, which focuses on clean-water initiatives. One week after the meeting, Mannal presented Water Defense with $50,000 in state funding, Smith said.
