Sunken Fishing Vessel Located off Martha’s Vineyard
December 10, 2019
Officials with the Massachusetts Environmental Police announced that they have located the New Bedford scalloper Leonardo, which sank on November 24 about 24 miles southwest of Marthas’ Vineyard.
The boat, which is resting upright on the seafloor in 140 feet of water, was located using side scan sonar, after which a remotely operated vehicle was sent down. EPO officials could not determine if any of the three missing crewmen were still onboard the sunken vessel. One crewman was rescued by the Coast Guard after the vessel capsized.
