Talk to Focus on Impact of Rockweed Harvest
April 7, 2015
Unity College biologist Aimee Phillippi will speak about the effects of commercial rockweed harvest in Maine on Thursday, April 9, at the college’s Student Activities Center. Rockweed is a common algae that grows in thick mats along the Northeast intertidal zone. In recent years, commercial harvest of rockweed has grown as more uses for the algae are found. Phillippi will discuss her studies, which focus on the impacts of rockweed removal on invertebrates that live beneath the rockweed canopy.
