Tremont, ME, Wharf Fee Structure Violates Agreement

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has confirmed that the town of Tremont, Maine, cannot impose different fees for residents and nonresidents using the Bernard Wharf, according to the Mount Desert Islander.

The town has for a number of years set separate fees for residents and nonresidents using the wharf. However, a local cooperation agreement between the town and the Army Corps states that the “landing must be kept open to all on an equal basis.”
