EPISODE 2: Harwich Port, MA
Uploaded On January 24, 2017 - Updated on March 2, 2017
In this episode, New England Boating explores the seaside village of Harwich Port, on the south side of Cape Cod. Harwich Port—part of the town of Harwich—actually comprises a trio of harbors, offering boaters (and viewers) a “three-for-one” deal!
Highlights include a dock-and-dine segment at Brax Landing Restaurant, as well as a stop for awesome fish tacos at the Salt Box food truck, both in Saquetucket Harbor.
In nearby Allen Harbor, the crew checks in with JP Shipman of Allen Harbor Marine Service, a full-service boatyard and marina offering fuel, service, transient slips, moorings and much more. Shipman, an experienced boater himself, also provides an informative tour of the harbor and the local waters, pointing out interesting sites and dispensing key navigational advice.
More local knowledge is doled out by Captain Peter Spalt of Monomoy Island Excursions, based in Saquetucket. Co-host Tom Richardson enjoys a personal tour with “Capt. Pete” aboard the company’s 43’ twin-diesel catamaran, Perseverance. Spalt, a former commercial fisherman, begins with a circumnavigation of tiny Wychmere Harbor then heads east to Monomoy Island for a close encounter with the local harbor seals.
Also in this episode, co-host Parker Kelley bikes to the Cape Cod Lavender Farm and learns plenty about this sweet-smelling plant and its many uses.
More Harwich Port adventures include a sail aboard the wooden schooner Tyrone, as well as a tour of the quaint downtown area. Parker visits a few local landmarks, including historic Monehan’s & Co. Fine Jewelers and Dr. Gravity’s Kite Shop, where some employees show Parker how to fly the colorful kites sold at this curious business on Main Street.
It’s another action-packed episode of NEBO TV you won’t want to miss!
