EPISODE 3: Westbrook, CT

In this action-packed episode, co-hosts Parker Kelley and Tom Richardson travel to the Connecticut boating hub of Westbrook. During their visit, Parker and Tom get to know the Patchogue River, which is home to several marinas and packed with boats of every description and size—not surprising given the river’s excellent protection, easy access to the Sound and deep-water channel.

They also grab a pair of stand-up paddleboards and set off up the adjoining Menunketesuck River to explore the quiet waters that wind through the Stewart B. McKinney Wildlife Refuge—a sprawling area teeming with birdlife. Tom also interviews Refuge Service Manager Shaun Roche about this remarkable 1,000-acre preserve.

Of course, Westbrook is also home to numerous restaurants, and Tom and Parker make sure to visit several of them, including Boom, Bill’s Seafood (below the Singing Bridge) and Edd’s Place. As a special surprise, Edd’s Place owners Edd and Kim demonstrate how to prepare the fresh-caught fluke and sea bass that Tom and Parker catch in Long Island Sound with local pro Phil Wetmore.

Also on the docket is a wakeboarding segment with a local boating family, as well as a fun Pursuit-owners’ raft-up party behind nearby Duck Island, a popular spot among local boaters and a great place to watch the evening sailboat races.
