UMass Dartmouth Lands Grant to Study Wind and Wave Power

Patriot Ledger: The University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth’s marine renewable energy center landed a nearly $750,000 federal contract to study more efficient ways to measure wind and wave power on the open ocean.

The federally funded research work will play a key role in the creation of a renewable energy testing zone that the university is developing with several research partners off the coasts of Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. UMass-Dartmouth said it completed a memorandum of understanding this week to seek federal approval for the development of the testing zone.

UMass-Dartmouth officials said the research zone and the specific work funded by the new contract will help encourage the creation and expansion.
