URI Seeks to Replace Research Ship

South County Independent: After 41 years, a replacement could be on the horizon for the 185-foot-long R/V Endeavor, which is operated by the University of Rhode Island.

The university’s Graduate School of Oceanography created a consortium with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts and the University of New Hampshire in January. On April 19, it submitted a proposal to operate a new ship that would replace the Endeavor. The new vessel would also be based at URI’s Bay Campus.
