Video: Salt Pond Spring Stripers

In late April and early May, school bass get active in the tidal ponds and rivers of southern New England, creating excellent opportunities for wade fishermen and kayak anglers alike.

In the accompanying video, New England Fishing host Tom Richardson and Capt. Dave Steeves of the Goose Hummock Shops fish for early-season striped bass in Waquoit Bay, a coastal salt pond on the south side of Cape Cod. The salt ponds offer some of the most consistent fishing for stripers in from early May through mid-June, and Tom and Dave have no trouble finding a hungry school of them. Along the way, they discuss some top lures, tackle, and techniques for taking early-season bass, as well as good spots to find the fish.
