Video: Metan Marine Boston Whaler Outrage 21 Restoration, Part I
October 19, 2011
Metan Marine (a New England Boating channel sponsor) is well-known for their restoration of classic Boston Whalers, and the accompanying video shows just how extensive some of this work can be. About 6 months ago Metan received delivery of a 1971 21 Whaler Outrage owned by 2 brothers in upstate New York. Like many of the classic boats Metan works on, this boat had tremendous sentimental value to the owners, as the brothers had grown up with the boat, cruising the waters of Lake Champlain. Years of hard use eventually took their toll, and the 2 decided that a total “remanufacture” was in order.
As you’ll see, the boat was completely taken apart. The transom was replaced, as was the console, the sole and rubrail and even the internal foam. All cracks, chips and dings were repaired, including a large section of the hull bottom. As of mid-October, the boat is a couple of weeks away from the final painting and install of the new 200-hp Evinrude E-Tec outboard, and we’ll show you that in Part II of this series.
