Video QuickTip: Emergency Cell Phone
November 9, 2010
Cell phones can still be used to make emergency 911 calls even after the service has been discontinued. Unless you plan to donate your old phone to a charity, hang onto it (as well as the charger) and keep it as a backup communications device on your boat or, better yet, in your ditch bag or PFD.
It could come in handy if you find yourself in trouble and are within range of a cell tower. Naturally, you’ll want to make sure that the phone is fully charged each time you head out, and you should also keep the phone in a watertight case or pouch in case you have to make a call while floating in the water.
