Volvo Ocean Race to Return to Newport in 2018
October 31, 2015
The Volvo Ocean Race will return to Newport in 2018. Rhode Island will again be the only North American stopover port for the around-the-world sailing event. Nearly 130,000 fans participated in race festivities during the 13-day event in 2015, with more than half traveling to Rhode Island from outside the state.
Newport joins Alicante (Spain), Cape Town (South Africa), Auckland (New Zealand), Cardiff (United Kingdom), Lisbon (Portugal) and Gothenburg (Sweden) on the list of confirmed stopovers for the 2017-18 edition of the race.
