Warm Temps Greet Greenwich, CT, Polar Plungers
January 5, 2012
Greenwich Time: In most years, a plunge into the frigid waters of Long Island Sound on New Year’s Day takes some serious gumption.
Polar Bear Plunge participants still needed a bit of bravery Sunday, but with the water temperature at Greenwich Point near 50 degrees, the dip into the Sound came as much less of a shock.
“Two years ago, it was raining and there was ice,” said 16-year-old Ford Nolan, who took his 6th plunge on Sunday, when air temperatures eclipsed the 50-degree mark. “This is one of the most crowded years, that’s for sure. It was almost tropical weather for us.”
