If you’re planning on visiting New Hampshire’s largest lake this summer, and plan to trailer your own boat, canoe or kayak there, here’s a short, town-by-town listing of launch ramps to get you on the water and having fun. Note that many of the lake’s marinas also have launch ramps.
Libby Museum (Wolfeboro): On Rte. 109, 3.1 miles northwest of town. Free.
Back Bay Public Dock (Wolfeboro): One block north of lake on Railroad Avenue, behind the old Wolfeboro railroad terminal. Access to the lake requires passage below a bridge with a clearance of 4.2 feet. Free.
Meredith Town Dock (Meredith): On Rte. 3 at the public parking lot. Trailer parking nearby on left side of the Aubuchon Hardware lot. Fee: $10.
Meredith Town Ramp (Meredith): Located at Shep Brown’s Boat Basin on Lovejoy Rd. Fee: $20.
Center Harbor Public Docks (Center Harbor): Downtown Center Harbor. Parking nearby. Fee: $10.
Harilla Landing (Moultonboro): From Rte. 25, proceed 6.2 miles south/east on Moultonboro Neck Road and bear right onto Long Island Road. After crossing bridge, proceed 2.2 miles on Old Long Island Road and take left at sign for Harilla Landing Yacht Club. Good ramp with float and parking. Free.
Lees Mill Road (Moultonboro): From Moultonboro Center, proceed 0.4 miles south on Rte. 25 then turn left onto Blake Road. At end of Blake Road, turn right onto Lees Mill Road and proceed to end. Ample parking. Free.
Alton Bay State Ramp (Alton Bay): At southern end of Alton Bay, juncture of Rtes. 11 and 28A. Large ramp with ample parking. Free.
Fay’s Boat Yard (Gilford): 71 Varney Point Road, Gilford (603) 293-8000 From Jct. 11/11B, east on route 11 for .1 mile. Turn left onto Varney Point Road. Fee: $15
Alton Bay Public Launch (Alton): Quarter mile north of the Route 11 bridge, on Route 11, in a public parking lot. Public parking for trailers about 1/2 mile away. Free.
Downing’s Landing (Alton): Just east of the Route 11 bridge. Fee: $15-$20.
Melvin Village Public Landing (Tuftonboror): Off Route 109. Free.
