Three people escaped from a boat uninjured after it caught fire in Wareham, Massachusetts, on Sunday, May 25.
Wareham safety officials received a report of the boat fire around 1 p.m. on Sunday. Crews from the Wareham Department of Natural Resources, Wareham Fire Department, Wareham Police Department, and Wareham EMS responded to the scene near the Tempest Knob boat ramp along the Wareham River.
When crews arrived, they found the three occupants of the boat had safely made it to shore.
The boat was engulfed in flames, and its location in shallow water meant crews could not get a fire boat close enough to put it out.
Responders were able to deploy a fire hose around nearby houses to the beach, where they knocked down the fire from shore. Crews then secured a towline to the boat and brought it to the boat ramp, where the boat’s owner removed the vessel using a trailer.
