Fuel Spill Reported in Hyannis Harbor

The Coast Guard has launched an investigation into an approximately 30-gallon diesel fuel spill that occurred last Friday (Aug. 16) in Hyannis Inner Harbor during a fuel transfer. An apparent leak in a fuel-transfer box allowed the fuel to enter the harbor before the spill was detected.

Once the spill was discovered early Friday morning, members of the Coast Guard and Hyannis Fire Department quickly deployed absorbent booms, pads, and other equipment to contain and remove the fuel from the surface.

The booms extended from Baxter’s Boathouse to the fishing pier and toward the Steamship Authority docks, affecting boat traffic in the harbor.
