1 Dead After Fishing Boat Accident Off Nahant
A 26-year-old fisherman from Maine was killed Friday after he and another crew member were seriously injured on their fishing boat off Massachusetts.
According to Coast Guard officials, a rope snapped aboard the 25 TO LIFE fishing boat shortly before 4 p.m., striking the two crew members. The boat was roughly 25 miles east of Nahant.
One of the injured crew members reportedly had a contusion and possible broken ribs, and the other was intermittently unresponsive with a suspected broken neck.
The Coast Guard launched a helicopter from Air Station Cape Cod, as well as small boats from Station Gloucester and Station Point Allerton in Hull.
A 45-foot response boat carried the injured crew members to a pier in Gloucester, where EMS transported them to Beverly Hospital.
Officials confirmed on Saturday that the crew member with the suspected broken neck had died.
The deceased fisherman was identified as Jaxson Marston, 26, from Maine. Marston was reportedly the father of one child, with another on the way.
