Possible Body Of Boater Found On Kennebec River
The body of a male was recovered by the Maine Marine Patrol on Wednesday, July 9 from the shore of Woods Island in the Kennebec River.
Officials have not yet confirmed it is the body of Robert Stolt, 22, of August, Maine, who has been missing on the Kennebec River since Sunday, July 6.
Maine Marine Resources officials said the body will be transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for examination and confirmation of identification.
The body was spotted by good Samaritans on Crawford Island shortly before 6 p.m. on Wednesday. They called 911 to report it. Woods Island is a short distance from Crawford Island in the Kennebec River.
With assistance from the Bath Police Department, Marine Patrol Officers recovered the body from Woods Island and transported it to shore, where it was transferred to a local funeral home before being taken to the medical examiner’s office.
The Maine Marine Patrol had been searching the Kennebec River near Bath for Stolt since Sunday. According to Maine Marine Patrol officials, Stolt was fishing on the river near Lines Island on Sunday when his dog jumped out of the 23-foot boat and into the water.
Both Stolt and a woman who was also on the boat jumped into the water after the dog.
The woman was reportedly rescued by people in a nearby boat, and she was treated by EMS for minor injuries.
The dog was also rescued, but officials said Stolt was not found.
