Coast Guard Rescues Hypothermic Boater In RI
Coast Guard officials are cautioning boaters to make sure they have cold weather survival gear onboard after rescuing a hypothermic boater off Rhode Island.
Crews from Coast Guard Station Castle Hill responded to a report of a stranded boater with symptoms of hypothermia on Wednesday, September 24.
The boater was stranded near Brenton Reef, off Newport near the entrance to Narragansett Bay.
The Coast Guard boat crew was on scene within 15 minutes of receiving the call and quickly transported the boater to an EMS crew waiting on shore.
Coast Guard officials said boaters should monitor the weather and make sure their vessels are outfitted with appropriate survival equipment for cold weather.
