June 24, 2021Boston Whaler’s new 230 Outrage received a coveted Innovation Award from the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) at the 2017 Miami International Boat Show.
To maximize cockpit space, the coaming around the 230’s bow was pushed out as far as possible. This allows for increased seat width, legroom, lounge seating and storage, plus an overall sense of security for bow passengers.
Also noteworthy is the innovative Converting Leaning Post: a helm bench seat with a back that folds down to reveal a hidden work station for prepping lines, tackle or snacks. The table can be closed to maximize cockpit space. In its “up” position, the leaning post gives anglers a supported aft-facing stance. Or, for additional seating, the backrest rotates down a full 90 degrees to form the backrest of a comfortable aft-facing seat, all while preserving storage space for a 54-quart cooler.
The 230 Outrage also features wide walkways and high freeboard. These aspects lend extra confidence and safety for wrestling a big catch or hosting a group. For the captain, refinements include a darker console face for reduced glare, strategically placed cup holders, and an intuitive control panel with optional Raymarine E95 touchscreens.
Performance tests with a single Mercury 350 Verado showed a cruise of 27.4 mph at 4000 rpm, and 10.3 gph fuel burn. MPG at that speed was 2.67 and range was 222 miles. Top-end speed was 54.3 at 6350 rpm.
