Dead Sperm Whale Found on Cuttyhunk

A 32-foot long sperm whale washed up on the shores of Cuttyhunk, Massachusetts, on Sunday morning, January 26.

The whale was reportedly found alive on the south side of the island, but died soon after.

Officials from the International Fund for Animal Welfare — a conservation group based on Cape Cod — said the whale had no obvious external wounds.

Plans for a full examination of the whale to determine the cause of death are still pending.
