From mega-yachts to kayaks—if it floats, you’ll find it in Boothbay Harbor, one of the premier cruising destinations on the Maine coast, if not the entire Northeast.
Dockage, Moorings & Service: Boothbay Town Landing: Three-hour tie-up on a first-come, first-served basis. Check with harbormaster on availability.
Brown’s Wharf Marina (207) 633-5440: Maintains 50 slips, with 15 reserved for transients. Also has 10 moorings available on a first-come, first-served basis, plus showers, laundry and a popular bar and restaurant overlooking the harbor.
Launch Ramp: A boat ramp is located next to the Town Landing, although parking is not available on-site.
A larger public ramp with ample parking is located at Knickercane Island State Park, northwest of Boothbay.
A third ramp with parking is located at Murray Hill Road in East Boothbay, at the head of Linekin Bay.
Anchorages: There are at least a dozen spots close to Boothbay Harbor that offer good protection, depth, and holding ground, depending on the wind direction. One is Mill Cove, outside the mooring field. Another is Lewis Cove in Linekin Bay. A third is the north side of McKown Point.
Thistle Inn (207) 633-3541: Boothbay Harbor institution serving good food and drinks in a relaxed, cozy atmosphere inside a former ship captain’s home built in 1861.
Mama D’s Café(207) 633-3464: Intimate local favorite with the local breakfast and lunch crowd. Offers fresh sandwiches and homemade soups, breads, and pastries.
Dunton’s Doghouse(207) 603-4700: Old-fashioned roadside stand where you can order hot dogs, burgers, fish or steak sandwiches, lobster and crab rolls, and fried seafood baskets.
Boothbay Farmers’ Market(207) 370-4395: Held each Thursday from 9-12, the market is where you will find a variety of fresh, local produce, honey, poultry, meat, cider, herbs, flowers, baked goods, craft beer, and much more.
Maine State Aquarium(207) 624-6550: Located at McKown Point, this seasonal aquarium is full of marine plants and animals that inhabit the local waters. The interactive tidal pool and dogfish touch-tank exhibits are kid favorites.
Janson’s Clothing Store (207) 633-3262: Wide variety of fashion clothing, footwear, and jewelry, plus practical foul-weather gear, fishing boots, dry bags, sweatshirts, and wool socks.
