Possible Fuel Spill Spotted off Menemsha Harbor

The Coast Guard and Menemsha harbormaster’s office reported a petroleum-based spill of some type that was visible on the ocean surface in and around Martha’s Vineyard’s Menemsha Harbor on Thursday morning (11/7).

The source of the spill could not be determined, and officials deemed the substance “unrecoverable” and said it would likely dissipate.

The petroleum sheen, which was filmed with a drone by Vineyard resident Marshall Carroll, stretched from Menemsha Harbor to the north of Lobsterville Beach.
