Rare Cotton Candy Lobster Caught Off Maine
A rare “cotton candy” lobster was recently caught off the coast of Maine.
Lobsterman Galen Staples and his sternman Meghan Joyce caught the blue and pink lobster near Swan’s Island.
The lobster is a real rarity. According to an official at the Seacoast Science Center in New Hampshire, cotton candy lobsters are 1-in-100-million.
The “cotton candy” name comes from the mix of pinks and purples on the blue backdrop of the lobster, resembling the colors of cotton candy.
Staples’ grandsons named the rare lobster “Timmy.”
They donated Timmy to the University of Maine Center for Cooperative Aquaculture Research in Franklin, Maine, where he will reside in a touch tank.
