Sailor Rescued off Sagamore Beach, MA

Members of the Bourne Fire & Rescue unit, the Sandwich Fire Department Marine Unit, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Coast Guard responded to mayday call issued by a sailor who was experiencing an unspecified medical emergency aboard his anchored vessel some 200 yards off Sagamore Beach in Bourne, MA. The incident took place on Thursday afternoon at around 4:15 p.m. in extremely heavy seas.

Eventually, the crew of an Army Corps of Engineers patrol boat was able to remove the sailor from the boat and transport him to the Sandwich Marina, where he was transported to a nearby hospital.

The sailboat later drifted ashore.

There was no information on his injuries or current condition.
