Search for Missing Maine Fishermen Suspended
The Coast Guard suspended its search for two missing Maine scallop fishermen and their 34-foot boat at approximately 6:00 p.m. on Sunday. Chester Barrett and his son, Aaron Barrett, were reported missing Saturday night by a family member when they failed to return home, according to the Maine Marine Patrol.
The men were aboard the 34-foot scallop boat, Sudden Impact, which was last seen leaving Cobscook Bay State Park at approximately 5:00 a.m. Saturday morning, according to the Coast Guard. After encountering heavy seas, the crew radioed that they planned to seek refuge in Cutler, but never arrived.
The Maine Marine Patrol began searching the water and shoreline between Lubec and South Addison around 7:00 p.m. Saturday, joined by the Coast Guard and local fishermen.
Eleven rescue crews from five agencies searched 950 square miles of ocean and coastline for more than 42 hours combined since Saturday evening.
