Boater Missing After Vessel Overturns In MA
One boater is missing and another has been hospitalized after a boat capsized off Salisbury Beach in Massachusetts on Saturday.
According to Massachusetts State Police officials, the 47-foot boat overturned off of Salisbury Beach at around 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 23.
The boat had reportedly departed from Salisbury Marina earlier in the day.
Seas were rough due to the impacts of Hurricane Erin, which passed offshore late last week. Salisbury Beach was closed at the time of the accident due to strong rip currents and large waves.
Coast Guard officials said they initially had good communication with the two men, but soon lost contact. Both men were reportedly wearing life jackets.
Coast Guard crews, police officers, and a local harbormaster responded to the scene to attempt to rescue the men.
Rescuers found one of the men, who was taken to a local hospital in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
State police officials said the man who remains missing is in his 50s.
