Connecticut Maritime Heritage Festival Begins Sept. 12

One of New England’s most enjoyable maritime events of the year is coming up in early September.

The Connecticut Maritime Heritage Festival will take place in New London on September 12 and 13.

The annual event celebrates the state’s maritime history with a packed weekend of fun events at Fort Trumbull State Park and the New London Waterfront Park.

This year’s festival will include military and private ships, a maritime skills challenge, a fishing clinic, food trucks, live music, a Coast Guard helicopter search and rescue demonstration, a chowder contest, and a mermaid and privateer children’s walking parade.

It will also include a special 50th anniversary celebration of the movie JAWS and a celebration to mark the 250th anniversary of the American Navy.
