Maine Boat & Home Show Returns to Rockland Waterfront August 7

The Maine Boat & Home Show returns to Rockland’s Harbor Park from Friday, August 7, through Sunday, August 9, bringing boats, marine equipment and the traditions of coastal living together on the city’s waterfront.

Organizers describe the event as Maine’s only in-water boat show and the largest in-water show north of Newport, Rhode Island. Visitors will be able to explore sailboats and powerboats displayed both at the docks and on land while meeting boatbuilders, marine businesses, craftspeople, artists and coastal home designers.

Friday’s program includes free seminars on canoes designed for Maine waters, buying and owning a sailboat, gelcoat repairs and the evolution of the Jericho Bay Skiff. Singlehanded sailor Ronnie Simpson will also discuss his preparations for another attempt to sail nonstop around the world.

A special Friday attraction will be the 42-foot Friendship sloop Sarah Mead. Built in Thomaston in 1965 and once used for lobstering on Muscongus Bay, the traditional wooden vessel has since been converted to electric propulsion.

The weekend will also feature marine demonstrations, live music, local food, artisans, educational programs and family activities. Additional highlights include a maritime film series, plein-air artists and an appearance by the historic schooner Harvey Gamage on Saturday and Sunday.

The show is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Adult admission is $15 per day or $30 for a three-day pass. Children under 12 are admitted free, and pets are not permitted.
