One of New England’s premier offshore fishing tournaments is set to return as the 13th Annual Cape Cod Blue Water Classic takes place July 11–17, 2026, bringing together anglers, captains and crews from across the Northeast for a week of world-class sportfishing, camaraderie and charitable giving. Headquartered in Falmouth, Massachusetts, the tournament has become a highlight of the region’s boating calendar, attracting both seasoned offshore competitors and newcomers eager to experience one of the East Coast’s most respected fishing events.
Formerly known as the Oak Bluffs Bluewater Classic, the tournament has evolved into a premier Castafari event while maintaining its reputation for innovation. Unlike many offshore tournaments, participating boats can depart from any port in the Northeast, giving crews greater flexibility. This year’s format allows teams to select their own 42-hour fishing window within six consecutive fishing days, creating a unique competition that accommodates changing weather and fishing conditions while keeping the field highly competitive.
Tournament headquarters will once again be located at MacDougall’s Marina and The Flying Bridge Restaurant & Marina in Falmouth. Tournament week begins on Saturday, July 11, with Calcutta registration followed by tournament registration, where participants can enjoy food, beverages, live music and the official captains’ meeting. Later that evening, the kick-off party welcomes anglers, sponsors and supporters before boats officially begin fishing at 8 p.m.
The Cape Cod Blue Water Classic features multiple offshore divisions, including bluefin tuna, yellowfin tuna, bigeye tuna, mahi-mahi and shark, with an additional Bluefin Only Division offering another level of competition for tuna anglers. Boats will venture to the legendary Eastern Canyons, one of the world’s most productive offshore fisheries, targeting prized species such as blue marlin, white marlin and tuna while competing for significant prize money and tournament honors.
The event continues to grow in stature after an impressive 2025 tournament, which saw 165 billfish released and nearly $700,000 in prize money awarded. Winning teams also earn invitations to compete in the prestigious Offshore World Championship in Costa Rica, giving competitors the opportunity to showcase their skills on an international stage.
Beyond the competition, the Cape Cod Blue Water Classic remains committed to supporting conservation and community initiatives. Tournament proceeds benefit organizations including The Billfish Foundation, The Skillie Project, and The Fishing Academy, which introduces inner-city youth from the Greater Boston area to fishing, boating and the outdoors. The event has also supported charities such as the Island Autism Group, Martha’s Vineyard Food Pantry, MGH Colon Cancer Research Fund, Martha’s Vineyard Boys & Girls Club and the Dion Foundation.
Whether you’re following the action from shore, cheering on your favorite crew or competing offshore, the Cape Cod Blue Water Classic continues to showcase the best of New England’s sportfishing tradition while celebrating conservation, sportsmanship and the region’s rich maritime culture.
