More Sailboats Expected Through the Cape Cod Canal This Week

If you’re planning to boat through the Cape Cod Canal over the next few days, you may notice more sailboats than usual.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is advising mariners and visitors to expect an increase in vessel traffic between July 8 and July 10 as sailing vessels make their way between the Sail4th 250 celebration in New York and Sail Boston.

While there are no scheduled parades or organized events taking place in the Canal, individual vessels are expected to transit independently throughout the three-day period. Because there is no set schedule, boaters won’t know exactly when the sailboats will pass through.

The Army Corps is encouraging everyone on the water to stay alert, expect heavier-than-normal boating activity, and use extra caution while navigating the Canal. Federal, state and local public safety agencies will also be on hand throughout the period to help manage vessel traffic and keep boaters safe.

If you’re hoping to catch a glimpse of the sailing vessels, your best bet is to keep an eye on the Canal over the next few days—but remember there won’t be a formal procession or viewing schedule.
