Every year, Labor Day rolls around and everyone starts talking about the end of summer.

Not so fast.
If you’ve lived on Cape Cod long enough, you know some of the best days of the season happen after the crowds thin out. The beaches are quieter, the sunsets linger a little longer, and the calendar fills with some of the Cape’s most memorable events.
One of those is The Prestige at Heritage, returning to Heritage Museums & Gardens on September 12 and 13.
Formerly known as Cocktails for Cars, this beloved event has evolved into an elegant weekend celebrating automotive excellence—and if you ask me, it’s the perfect excuse to keep those summer outfits hanging in the closet just a little longer.
I had the chance to attend last year, and I quickly realized this wasn’t your average car show.
Imagine strolling through the beautiful gardens at Heritage with a cocktail in hand, surrounded by some of the most stunning collector cars you’ll ever see. Every vehicle has a story, every owner has a passion, and the atmosphere feels equal parts garden party, luxury showcase, and community celebration.
The weekend begins Saturday with The Heritage Driving Tour, followed by the Spotlight Dinner featuring renowned automotive historian Evan Ide. Guests will enjoy a three-course dinner, captivating stories from the world of classic automobiles, and an intimate evening with fellow enthusiasts.

Then on Sunday, the spotlight turns to Cocktails for Cars, where more than forty remarkable collector vehicles will be displayed throughout the gardens. Guests can sip handcrafted cocktails, enjoy delicious bites, meet fellow enthusiasts, and hear from automotive legends including television personality Wayne Carini and Evan Ide.
And here’s the thing—you don’t have to be a “car person” to fall in love with this event.
I certainly spent as much time admiring the atmosphere as I did the automobiles. Between the gardens, the fashion, the conversations, and the incredible craftsmanship on display, it feels like one of those experiences where everyone finds something to appreciate.
Collectors also have the opportunity to showcase their own vehicle during Sunday’s event, with a limited number of cars selected for the field display.
So before you pack away your linen dresses, sport coats, and sunglasses, save one more weekend for yourself.
Because on Cape Cod, summer isn’t measured by the calendar.
It’s measured by moments.
And The Prestige at Heritage might just be one of the season’s most unforgettable.
